Smart EV company Xpeng has begun the rollout of its XNGP advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) to eligible customers in China. XNGP will be delivered to owners and operators of the Xpeng G9 Max and P7i Max in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai via an OTA update.
In the first phase, Xpeng’s City Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) functions, which are already available in Guangzhou, will be expanded to applicable customers in Shenzhen and Shanghai. Through the OTA update, customers will also be provided with the OEM’s enhanced Simulated Reality (SR) 2.0. The solution, powered by XNET perception technology, provides a real-time bird’s-eye view and a 360° panoramic perception of the vehicle’s surrounding environment and conditions.
The latest update delivered through Xpeng’s Xmart Operating System 4.2.0 will also include 27 new functions, 52 optimizations and 40 other improvements, including smart driving, smart voice, extra cockpit experiences, and more.
In the second half of 2023, the next phase of XNGP’s rollout will be conducted, bringing full lane changing, overtaking and navigation through crossroads to the vehicle. The Xpeng models will be able to carry these out during complicated driving scenarios and will no longer require a high-definition map.
“Today marks another exciting milestone in the development of autonomous driving. We are truly proud to be trailblazing this leap forward that will significantly enrich our customers’ driving experience using the latest technology,” said Dr Xinzhou Wu, vice president and head of Autonomous Driving Center at Xpeng.
“XNGP has proven itself to be highly advanced and capable ADAS platform in the Chinese market,” added Wu. “We are able to deploy the software via OTA updates to multiple models across multiple cities in China concurrently.”
