Building on their existing technology partnership, Visteon and Qualcomm Technologies have announced they are to develop a high-performance cockpit domain controller that will enable OEMs to build next-generation digital cockpits for their own vehicles.
The SmartCore cockpit domain controller is a software solution developed by Visteon at its technical centers in India. The solution benefits from integrated automotive cockpit system functions such as digital instrument clusters, Android-based infotainment, and cloud-enabled applications consisting of navigation, radio, multimedia playback, and smart voice assistants.
The SmartCore platform benefits from being fully over-the-air software upgradeable and also provides an integrated app store with a multitude of applications to deliver a highly customized and regionalized experience for drivers internationally.
Furthermore, to cater for OEMs and their vehicles which use four or more cameras externally and up to two cameras internally, SmartCore includes advanced vision processing to deliver surround vision, driver monitoring and remote surveillance via a smartphone app.
“The automotive cockpit is emerging as a critical competitive battleground for the industry, and Visteon’s SmartCore software platform offers a complete solution to address the consumer’s demand for a user experience that matches their expectations,” said Sachin Lawande, president and CEO, Visteon. “The combination of Visteon’s SmartCore software and Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms will enable auto makers to deliver advanced features and functions in their next-generation cockpits quickly with production programs targeted for 2025.”
“Through our Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms, we are empowering the automotive industry’s transition to a more intelligent, personalized and connected in-vehicle experience,” commented Nakul Duggal, senior vice president and GM, automotive, Qualcomm Technologies. “We look forward to continuing our efforts with Visteon in bringing advanced capabilities and functionalities to next-generation vehicles through SmartCore and our Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms.”
