Tightening specifications in the automotive industry and the proliferation of electric and autonomous vehicles has increased demand for a more robust cleaning process for automotive parts.
To this end, Cool Clean Technologies has developed a way to effectively clean particulate and residue from multiple automotive parts, including electronics and coated parts.
The method, currently being demonstrated at Automotive Interiors Expo North America, can result in reduced labor costs, less scrap, fewer rejected parts and more consistent production, and is also environmentally friendly.
Cool Clean uses dry, clean, sustainable CO2 as a cleaning medium that is easily automated and is accepted by many OEMs and suppliers as an effective and economical alternative to wet cleaning.
Nick Heisler, director of sales for Cool Clean, explained, “The automotive industry no longer has to deal with hazardous chemicals or water disposal. It can use the same infrastructure that is currently used in the beverage industry to carbonate soda.
“The process is simple,” he continues. “The gas is taken from a CO2 supply tank and is condensed and expanded to create a dry ice ‘snow’. The ‘snow’ is used to clean various contaminates from a surface without creating a waste stream.”
Cool Clean is demonstrating the effectiveness of CO2 cleaning and the ease of automation at its booth. This is the company’s second time at Automotive Interiors Expo, where it has received a very positive reception to its technology.
