To offer additional flexibility for hybrid workers, Cisco and Audi have revealed that, in partnership with CARIAD and Harman, they will make the Webex application available in certain 2024 Audi models.
The safe and secure application will be available through the in-vehicle Audi Application Store which has been developed by CARIAD and Harman for compatible Audi vehicles, with certain Volkswagen Group vehicles added in the future.
“We’re on a mission to transform the connected car into another extension of the hybrid workplace,” said Jeetu Patel, executive vice president and general manager, security and collaboration, Cisco. “Our work with leading manufacturers like Audi will empower customers with a safe and seamless way to stay connected and be productive regardless of where or how you’re working.”
The Webex app will be available for download through the Audi infotainment system, with no phone required for setup. Drivers will be able to seamlessly transition from Webex meetings on smartphones or electronic devices to in-car meetings.
For enhanced safety, the Webex app switches into an audio-only mode when the car is moving to ensure drivers are not distracted. When parked however, drivers or occupants can view other meeting participants, share content and have access to the full range of Webex features – including AI-enhanced meetings. Built-in AI features improve voice audio and remove background noise to deliver clear sound no matter the driving scenario.
Beginning in July 2023, the Application Store will be available for new Audi production models, consisting of the A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7, A8, Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT in Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico, and other markets.
“We are excited to offer Volkswagen Group’s customers Webex meeting capabilities that make hybrid work more convenient and adaptable,” said Dr Riclef Schmidt-Clausen, senior vice president, domain intelligent cockpit and body, CARIAD.
“With our new Group Application Store we will offer customers a vast variety of essential and popular apps, seamlessly connecting their car with their digital life. Together with our Volkswagen Group brands and partners, we take the digital in-car experience to the next level, turning the car into a smart companion for drivers.”
“We are delighted to partner with like-minded leaders at the forefront of technology and automotive to bring Webex capabilities into the car for hybrid and remote workers,” commented Albert Jordan, VP and GM of the Automotive Applications Business Unit, Harman.
“The Harman Ignite Store, a white label solution for the Volkswagen Group Application Store, makes it easy for developers to adapt their content and services for automotive, all while ensuring the experience is safe and optimized for the vehicle environment. It’s collaborations like these that will transform the in-cabin experience, keeping drivers connected to what matters.”
