Hon Hai Precision Industry, better known as Foxconn, together with its subsidiary FIH Mobile and automotive manufacturer Stellantis, have formed a joint venture dubbed Mobile Drive. The companies say the JV will focus on delivering a smart cockpit solution for passenger vehicles. They claim that the resulting product will disrupt current design conventions and foster the development of intelligent connected vehicles. The companies previously signed an MoU in May this year.
Mobile Drive will be equally owned by Stellantis and FIH. It will focus on developing infotainment and telematics solutions as well as a cloud service platform that will form the basis of the comprehensive smart cockpit solution.
The parties say the JV will work on a roadmap of software innovations, including artificial-intelligence-based applications, navigation, voice assistance, e-commerce store operations and payment services integration. Concurrently, hardware will be developed to enable the realization of the smart cockpit and telematics box functionality.
Through the exchange of intellectual property by its founding entities and the vertical integration of respective supply chains, it is claimed that Mobile Drive will create new automotive digital services for a seamless user experience in and outside a vehicle. Notably, the resulting smart cockpit solution will be available not only to all Stellantis vehicles but also to third-party vehicle manufacturers.
