A series of enhancements have been introduced by Kia, available via a free software update. One of the main upgrades is the introduction of electric vehicle route planning for the EV6 and the latest Niro EV.
The vehicles’ navigation system is now capable of detecting charging stations along the chosen route, with waypoints being added automatically. To relieve range anxiety, the new system automatically recognizes if battery levels are too low to reach the destination and alerts the driver as to where a nearby charging station is. If required, the Kia vehicle will automatically start a battery conditioning process to deliver an optimal charging time.
EV route planning displays a proposed route to users based on an algorithm which considers the state of charge, Live Charging Points of Interest information and the energy consumption based on a multitude of external factors, including driving style and mode.
Kia has also made some smaller upgrades, such as the introduction of Soundhound, a music discovery service which identifies songs played on the radio before downloading them from a server.
The software update also brings with it improved icons and symbols, in addition to adjustments to the vehicle’s menu structure for easier menu navigation and enhanced icon and sub menu visibility.
These improvements will come as standard on upcoming Kia models, beginning with the EV9.
