Volkswagen is to launch its latest Polo model with a Digital Cockpit as standard, which it says is designed in a way that presents drivers with all relevant vehicle information on a single line of sight to minimize distraction.
As part of a major technical and visual update for the Polo, base models will feature the updated cockpit, consisting of digital instruments and a 203mm central display, controlled using the multifunction steering wheel. Alongside this, the German OEM’s Composition Infotainment system also features a 155mm touchscreen on the Polo and Life trim options.
A multitude of functions can be used via the steering wheel, or buttons on the system itself, including an integrated Bluetooth cell phone interface, digital radio reception (DAB+) and volume control. The Bluetooth connection enables drivers to check, lock or unlock the central locking, access driving data and see the vehicle’s parking position. A range of other smartphone apps can be integrated into the Infotainment system on the Polo Life trim option via App-Connect.
On the Polo in the Style trim level, Digital Cockpit Pro features a 260mm display, an optional extra for Life and R-Line trim levels. On the multifunction steering wheel, a View button enables the driver to choose between three graphical options to configure content shown on the gauges, such as rev counter or maps.
A Ready 2 Discover Infotainment system, consisting of a 203mm touchscreen with proximity sensors, comes as standard on Polo Style and Polo R-Line models. We Connect Plus enables streaming, internet, internet radio and use as a wi-fi hotspot. Other navigation functions can be activated via the system’s In-Car Shop, giving the occupants access to a host of online services, including Online Traffic Information, Online Route Calculation and Online Destination Import from a smartphone.
Two further navigation systems in the form of Discover Media and Discover Pro are also available as extras. The systems feature enhanced music performance and extended menu functions. A camera built into the windshield communicates road signs via the Dynamic Road Sign Display function to the display and digital instruments. Furthermore, Discover Pro features voice control to operate the radio, telephone and navigation system.
