Digital and IT services company NTT Data has announced the launch of the beta version of Mobicomma – a Mobility as a Service solution for tourists – to car-sharing business Honda Mobility Solutions (HMS), beginning in November 2022.
The Mobicomma solution consists of tablets mounted in different locations within a vehicle to enable passengers to share information to determine upcoming travel plans. By using GPS data, the Mobicomma system (aided by an animated character) will recommend varying locations to users. Passengers can also use the tablets as infotainment screens, with karaoke and other forms of entertainment being on offer.
NTT Data and HMS aim to add value to a customer’s travel experience when using a hire car or car-share service through the incorporation of this service. The tablets will also provide additional opportunities to connect with customers and users to generate additional revenue streams.
The announcement marks the second company to use the Mobicomma services, following rental car firm ORIX Auto Corporation. The new collaboration with HMS will enable NTT Data to evaluate the potential for using Mobicomma with a car-sharing service, as this has a different use condition than with rental cars.
In FY 2023, NTT Data aims to commercialize Mobicomma by expanding the number of car rental and car-sharing operators using the service. The company also seeks to explore the possibility of developing its services for use within private cars and self-driving vehicles.
