Location data and technology platform Here Technologies has announced that OEM Smart will use a host of Here Connected Vehicle Services and the Here Software Development Kit to power the company’s latest all-electric compact Smart #1 SUV.
The Smart #1 will use Here’s map data in addition to Here Real-Time Traffic and POIs, and also Here on-street and off-street parking. The connected vehicle services from Here will be provided to the Smart vehicle by ECARX, the global mobility technology company that designed the digital head unit for the vehicle in addition to co-developing the Smart OS operating system with the OEM.
With traffic being a main concern for drivers in urban areas, all of Smart’s #1 models will be equipped with Here’s Real-Time Traffic system to reduce journey time by providing up to date information on congestion and road hazards. Here Parking will also feature to aid users in finding on- or off-street parking faster. Pricing and restriction information will also be shown.
“Here provides the digital services our urban users expect – like real-time traffic and efficient parking – all delivered in the consistent and original Smart look and feel,” said Dirk Adelmann, CEO, Smart Europe. “We are grateful to count Here as a trusted partner, both for their technical expertise and their quality, on our journey to transform the Smart brand.”
“We are proud to support the rebranding of Smart, powering the first vehicle of the new generation all-electric product family. Here Connected Vehicles Services and Here SDK help Smart deliver on its promise of an immersive digital experience, both within and outside the vehicle,” said Fred Hessabi, executive vice president and chief customer officer, Here Technologies.
