Volkswagen has launched its ChatGPT-integrated Plus Speech voice assistant in the USA. The feature will roll out on September 6, 2024, for the 2025 Jetta and Jetta GLI, and 2024 ID.4 models equipped with an 82kWh battery. With this, new and existing customers will benefit from the feature addition. The update adds the support of Cerence Chat Pro to Volkswagen’s IDA voice assistant for a user-friendly experience.
The ChatGPT feature will come bundled with the Plus Speech with AI subscription in Volkswagen Car-Net. For the existing ID.4 owners (with Plus Speech subscription), the feature will be activated next week; 2025 ID.4, including the 62kWh versions, will gain this feature later this year.
Volkswagen’s ID.4 and ID. Buzz come with three years of free Plus Speech while the GTI, Golf R, and Tiguan will have it for one year. Jetta, Jetta GLI and Taos owners will have the option to add it through the myVW mobile app, and Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models will get the feature in 2026.
With the ChatGPT integration, the IDA voice assistant connects to the cloud, and Cerence Chat Pro processes a query using various sources and ChatGPT. This enables the voice assistant to handle complex questions for a hands-free journey. The feature prioritizes security, and all contextual data is deleted immediately to ensure maximum data protection, according to Volkswagen.
