As reported last week, the newly released GMC Hummer will be the first production vehicle to harness Epic Game’s Unreal Engine to power its HMI. Now, GMC has released further details of the full suite of interior technology the vehicle will be equipped with.
Promising an immersive experience for both driver and passengers, GMC states that the onboard systems will provide information on all aspects of vehicle operation, from simple tasks such as locating charging stations to providing access to a host of external cameras placed to aid off road driving (including and underbody camera).
The information will be made accessible through two displays, a 13.4in diagonal color touchscreen that’s part of the GMC infotainment system and a 12.3in diagonal color driver information center display. Beyond music reproduction, the sound system (supplied by Bose) will provide sound enhancement which GMC claims will optimize the vehicle’s cabin acoustic environment.
According to GMC, three fundamental in-vehicle information centers will help owners navigate the capabilities and selectable features:
- Energy Assist — monitors energy use, sets up charging schedules, battery temperature conditioning and more;
- Off-Road Widgets — offers information related to the Hummer EV’s selectable capabilities and performance readouts in off-road driving scenarios — everything from the ride height and e-Locker engagement to compass headings, pitch/roll status and more; and
- ProGradeTrailering app — based on the Trailering app developed for GMC’s full-size trucks, this widget allows the owner to create a trailer profile, perform a trailer light test, establish pre-departure checklists, and more.
