Hyundai Mobis has developed a new glove box, designed specifically for electric vehicles like Kia’s EV9, which offers an expanded capacity and a user-friendly design that reduces the risk of knee collision.
The ‘Parabolic Motion Glove Box’ concept drew its inspiration from overhead aircraft luggage compartments, with ‘Parabolic Motion’ describing the parabolic trajectory of the glove box when opened.
Due to the design differences between conventional vehicles and EVs – such as the lack of an internal combustion engine (ICE) – passenger space has been expanded alongside glove box storage capacity.
To optimize the glove box for EVs, Hyundai Mobis enlarged its storage capacity – traditional glove boxes in ICE vehicles have approximately 5.5 liters of storage space, but the Parabolic Motion offers more than 8 liters.
Hyundai Mobis has also enhanced usability with a reduced chance of knee collision occurring when the glove box is opened.
