Toyoda Gosei, part of Toyota Group, has developed a new system that enables manufacturers to experience changes in vehicle interior sounds with different combinations of the sealing parts (weatherstrips).
The EVs and fuel cell vehicles entering the market are quieter than traditional ICE vehicles. This translates to pronounced wind and tire noise that requires better sound insulation. To address this, Toyoda Gosei has developed high-performance sealing parts.
The highlight is that with the company’s new system, one can hear driving sounds in the concept stage itself. This results in proposals for the best combination of sealing parts for a quieter cabin, and also helps to minimize design changes, thereby reducing development time.
The new system was developed sing measurements of sound that Toyoda Gosei has acquired to date. The brand is also planning to take the system further by combining machine learning with artificial intelligence, to predict and reproduce the sound even before part prototypes are made.
