An LED lamp unit which projects patterns onto vehicle interiors using shadow has been developed by Toyoda Gosei. The company’s LED Shadow Illumination will be used on the latest Lexus RZ BEV from Toyota Motor.
The solution consists of a plate with decorative patterns built into an LED lamp unit. This is then used to project ornamental designs onto the inside of the door to create a new type of interior space.
Toyoda Gosei’s optical technology prevents passenger shadows by projecting light diagonally from the front of the vehicle, while the pattern is simultaneously projected at sites separated from the light source.
The new product is capable of delivering a range of different light colors in addition to variations in pattern, and different appearances can be shown depending on the vehicle’s interior materials.
