In 2019, the Polestar 2 became the first car in the world to debut with an infotainment system powered by the Android Automotive operating system (OS). At the same time, a beta version of Polestar’s own Android emulator was released for the Polestar 2, which enabled developers to produce apps specifically for the vehicle. This system has now been updated with Android Automotive OS 10 templates and integrations, in keeping with the latest technology available in the Polestar 2.
“The Android system holds enormous potential for cars,” commented Thomas Ingenlath, CEO, Polestar. “We see many fun and smart proposals coming from internal and external developers, and our quick route to market means we see apps going from proposal to production relatively quickly. This is one of the key benefits of having Android built into the car – we are able to tap into the creativity and pace of the entire Android development community.”
Since its initial launch, the Android emulator has resulted in several apps being produced for the Polestar 2, including EasyPark, ABRP, ChargePoint, Video Player and TV 2 Sumo.
