Chinese automobile manufacturer Nio has introduced the all-new EL8, a luxury six-seat SUV designed to be smart, safe and sustainable.
This model marks the brand’s entry into several European markets (Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden) and continues its presence in Norway, where the previous model had been introduced.
Offering generous space for six passengers, the EL8 comes in two configurations: one with a centre aisle featuring 14-way rear seats, and another with an executive console that includes a smart refrigerator and ottoman reclining seats. Both models offer a hot stone massage feature as standard in the first and second rows.
Performance-wise, the EL8 is equipped with a 100kWh long-range battery, 480kW dual motor and all-wheel-drive system. A 75 kWh standard-range battery option is available.
The EL8’s body is composed of 90% aluminum alloy, featuring extensive crumple zones and multiple airbags, including a front center airbag standard across Nio’s European range. The Smart Safety System adjusts airbag timing and seat belt force depending on the crash severity and user position, to improve occupant protection. The brake system features a six-piston front caliper with Bosch’s intelligent park brake (IPB), for improved response times and control.
Sustainability is a key focus in the EL8’s design, Nio says. The interior uses materials such as plant-based woven suede, soybean foam and rattan. The roof headlining is made from a plant-based woven suede derived from sugar cane and castor oil.
Energy efficiency features like the Integrated Parking Brake contribute to enhanced energy recovery, increasing range and reducing brake pad wear. The EL8 features intelligent multi-beam, adaptive matrix LED headlights controlled by Nio’s supercomputer ADAM. Family-oriented features include Child Presence Detection, anti-collision protection for rear doors, and a specific pet mode.
The infotainment system is comprehensive, with a 23-speaker, 7.1.4 surround sound system incorporating Dirac Pro and Dolby Atmos technologies. The cabin also features a fragrance system debuting the new Forest scent.
The Banyan operating system enables smart functionality and over-the-air updates. Safety recording features include an Emergency Video function and a One-Click Video Recording feature for capturing traffic violations and accident evidence. The EL8 includes a 16.3in HUD, a 12.8in AMOLED central display and a 6.6in rear display as standard, along with the NOMI Halo in-car virtual assistant.
The EL8 is available in five sky-themed exterior colors and three earth-inspired interior themes, with options for larger wheels, a towbar, and the Premium Comfort Package on the Centre Aisle model.
