Persiskin Auto, by Antolin and Persiskin, is a new plant-based skin that offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional animal leather and other synthetic coverings for automotive interiors.
A result of two-year collaboration, Persiskin Auto is composed of a high content of persimmon waste, a fruit whose production has a high waste (around 50%). This waste is converted into a material with up to 80% biological content that can be customized in terms of touch, roughness, engravings, gloss and color, and can be marked, sewn or laser engraved.
The Persiskin Auto will offer car brands an alternative to traditional interior coverings (synthetic or traditional animal leather), reducing the use of chemicals and water consumption.
The new material is expected to be ready for application in door panels, instrument panels, consoles and even seats by 2025. The persimmon waste is a seasonal product; however, the waste can be stored for long duration. This means there will be a continuous supply of raw materials, making it ideal for production throughout a year.
Presently, Antolin is collaborating with a major European automotive brand to include it in the interior of a new vehicle scheduled for 2028.
