In-mold structural electronics (IMSE) producer TactoTek has named Dr Pälvi Apilo as its new chief technology officer. Having played a key role in developing TactoTek’s technology, Dr Apilo has a wealth of experience in advanced electronics and strategic research.
As CTO, she will continue to improve the company’s IMSE tech to reduce material usage, streamline manufacturing, and create electronic structures and surfaces for future smart designs. As part of this, she is also responsible for expanding TactoTek’s patent portfolio.
Since joining TactoTek in 2018, Dr Apilo has been a key part of the team, most recently serving as director of foresight and research. In that role, she led the long-term technology roadmap and drove initiatives that expanded IMSE’s capabilities. Her contributions have been essential to advancing the company’s technology innovations, especially in automotive applications and circular economy strategies for electronics.
Jussi Harvela, CEO of TactoTek, said, “We are excited to welcome Dr Pälvi Apilo as our CTO. Her deep understanding of our technology, combined with her ability to connect research with real-world applications, makes her the ideal person to take our technology forward. I am confident that under her technical leadership, TactoTek will continue to innovate and deliver cutting-edge solutions for our licensed customers.”
Dr Apilo has built her career at the intersection of industry and academic research. She holds a Master’s degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Printed Electronics. For over a decade, she worked as a senior scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, where she led complex EU and nationally funded projects, as well as customer projects focused on printed and hybrid electronics. During that time, she also spent a term as a visiting researcher at Fraunhofer ISE.
“I am honored to step into the role of CTO at TactoTek. TactoTek has built something truly unique. With our talented technical team, we’ll continue expanding what’s possible with IMSE technology, delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers and partners worldwide,” commented Dr Apilo.
