Plastic, latex and rubber producer Trinseo has launched Pulse Eco, using recycled content for automotive interiors.
The Pulse Eco series contains between 30% and 50% recycled content by combining European post-industrial recycled (PIR) polycarbonate with Trinseo’s Magnum ABS.
Developed using Trinseo’s Pulse GX technology, the material company says it has superior flow properties, low temperature ductility, a low CO2 footprint and low density.
Trinseo says the material makes it suitable for interior applications including mid/floor consoles, instrument panels and pillars.
Resins containing PIR had a reduced environmental impact, reducing energy consumption by up to 48%, lowering global warming potential by 39% and lowering water consumption by 39%.
Frank Schumann, global marketing manager – automotive at Trinseo, said, “Our automotive customers are increasingly looking out for recycled materials that deliver the quality required to ensure consistent and high-performing interior applications. Not only will the Pulse Eco Series meet sustainability objectives for our customers, but it will also deliver design advantages equal to all-virgin premium products.”
