The 2021 BMW 5 Series will be the first model to benefit from BMW Maps.
The digital cloud-based navigation system, which BMW tells Automotive Interiors World (AIW) will be first made available on the updated 5 Series, has faster route calculations and recalculations based on real-time traffic data.
Upcoming traffic on the entire route is factored into arrival time calculations and complete traffic data is available for more minor roads.
BMW tells AIW that BMW Maps will be rolled out to other models via remote software updates from July.
Other interior upgrades include the standard Live Cockpit Professional with iDrive 7, which enhances the navigation system with 3D visuals of the surrounding area.
It also highlights all vehicles registered by cameras and sensors in the driver’s lane and adjacent lanes.
They are shown in the central section of the instrument display with vehicles within a critical distance highlighted.
Graphics display maneuvers that can be carried out with help from the assistance systems.
The optional Parking Assistance Package has a panorama view and 3D surround camera, helping identify suitable parking spaces.
Back-Up Assistant records the last 50 yards (45m) driven below 20mph and can automatically reverse along the exact path.
The 2021 5 Series comes with the latest BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, activated with spoken prompts including ‘Hey BMW’ or at the touch of a button.
Spoken instructions can open and close windows or adjust the air conditioning.
Drivers can set rules so BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can learn routines that increase convenience including opening windows when the vehicle reaches a chosen location.
