The ClearView vision technology from Magna has made its production debut on board the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks. Magna’s system, which uses a camera and smart mirror technology, aims to improve safety by increasing visibility around the vehicle, reducing the chance of blind-spot collisions occurring. The solution can also be used for parking and maneuvering more easily.
Magna’s safety solution consists of an interior rearview video mirror, exterior mirrors with integrated cameras and a center high-mounted stop lamp camera. A trailer camera can be added as an optional extra to deliver additional visibility when towing. The camera data is then processed by Magna’s software in a central electronic control unit.
The interior mirror uses Magna’s PACE Infinity glass, and drivers can switch between an optical rear view and a video display which shows up to three camera views at the same time. Users can also use the interior mirror display to zoom in and out, to adjust brightness or to rotate and move images.
“ClearView showcases Magna’s unmatched ability to draw on the breadth of its capabilities and expertise to provide a full-system solution for consumers,” said Jeff Hunt, president of Magna Mirrors, Mechatronics and Lighting. “This unique synergy combines our leading vision-based expertise with our mirror capabilities to create an advanced technology that promotes safety and gives the driver more information about the immediate surroundings.”
