In a bid to reduce the number of incidents whereby children or pets are accidentally left in vehicles during warm weather, Nissan is rolling out a simple yet innovative solution to help prompt driver awareness.
The Rear Door Alert (RDA) technology uses door sequence logic to determine if a rear door was used before a trip, but was not opened after the vehicle is parked. The driver is first alerted to check the rear seats through a message on the center instrument panel. If the driver exits the vehicle and does not open a rear door, the system progresses to distinctive chirps of the horn.
The RDA technology will come as standard on the 2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, LEAF, Murano, Maxima, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport (2019.5) and TITAN (King Cab and Crew Cab) models. For the 2020 model year, it will also be mad available on the all-new subcompact Versa.
Nissan has said that the RDA system is easy to configure and can be temporarily, or permanently, turned on through a menu in the cluster display or through a separate RDA switch, depending on the model.
