Working in partnership with a team of experts in neurology, psychology, cognitive knowledge and the study of emotions and computer systems, Antolin is to develop artificial intelligence systems that are capable of ascertaining cognitive and emotional states – including the mood, comfort and health – of vehicle users. These will then be correlated with biometric parameters through real-time sensing.
The Genius project will see a vehicle’s cabin being monitored through the use of various sensors connected to intelligent systems. These will then work in tandem to analyze and interpret the cognitive and emotional state of the vehicle’s occupants. Once a user’s state is identified, the system will seek to enhance the passenger’s in-cabin experience by changing the lighting, sound or smell automatically.
Collaboratively, Antolin will work with research groups including the Technological Institute of Castilla y León, the Textile Industry Research Association (AITEX), Infinitia Research, the Biomedical Engineering Group (GIB) and the ICAI School of Engineering. To aid in defining cognitive models and emotional states, the company has also created a team of medical professionals who specialize in psychology, neurology, emotion recognition and natural language processing.
Through the project, Antolin aims for the interior functions to be completely autonomous, with the solution becoming capable of analyzing a user’s state before optimizing and adapting the vehicle’s cabin area.
As part of the project, an advanced simulator is being built to enable the research and analysis of critical parameters and monitoring systems, to test the correlation study between stimuli, cognitive states and biomedical and physiological data.
On April 27, 2023, the board of directors of the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation, approved a grant for the project, which is entitled ‘Correlation of biometric data with cognitive and emotional states in in-vehicle scenarios and investigation of corrective stimuli and advanced control functions: Genius-Case I’.
