A 120GHz IQ radar front-end transceiver – featuring on-chip integrated antennas – has been launched by Indie Semiconductor in what is stated to be a world’s first. Named the TRXˍ120ˍ067, the solution delivers high-resolution, small-form-factor and low-power consumption sensing required by the latest automotive radar systems.
With radar already used for automated emergency braking and other convenience features at frequencies between 76GHz and 81GHz, OEMs are now seeking to enhance sensing resolution further for use within in-cabin driver and occupant monitoring systems. These require higher frequencies from 120GHz to 140GHz and enable vital sign detection – consisting of heartbeat and respiration – for additional occupant safety.
“Building on the momentum of our recent acquisition of Silicon Radar, we are excited to offer our customers the world’s first, production-ready 120GHz radar transceiver on-chip with integrated antenna, opening new possibilities for automotive radar and sensing applications,” said Dr Peter Gulden, SVP of Indie Semiconductor’s Radar Systems and Software. “This transceiver pushes the sensing performance envelope and uniquely positions Indie as a leader in advanced automotive radar solutions.”
