Audio specialist Harman has announced that it is collaborating with Volkswagen to design a sound system for the German OEM’s first all-electric limousine for Europe, the ID.7.
The optional Harman Kardon sound system – which consists of a 14-speaker, 16-channel set-up including a subwoofer and a center speaker, the Fraunhofer Sonamic Panorama algorithm and four sound modes – is said to deliver a “precise, detailed, wholly unique listening experience” listening experience.
The Fraunhofer Sonamic Panorama algorithm works by separating the individual sound sources of a stereo recording before distributing them in a U-shaped pattern to provide immersive and accurate audio. Engineers from both Volkswagen and Harmon Kardon worked collaboratively to ensure the sound system was optimized for the ID.7’s interior space.
The Harman Kardon sound system also features sound focus seat optimization technology, which enables specific seats to be highlighted – either all of the seats or just the front passenger, driver or rear seat – for the optimal listening experience. Four sound settings can also be chosen – Pure, Relax, Speech and Vibrant – each enabling listeners to adjust the system to suit their audio requirements.
The Volkswagen ID.7’s Harman Kardon sound system features authentic, beautiful, and functional design that integrates seamlessly with the car’s interior, matching its design language.
Drawing design inspiration from the Harmon Kardon logo, the car’s speaker grilles are highlighted by a 60° hole pattern and crafted from ultra-thin 0.5mm high-strength steel.
“Harman Kardon and Volkswagen have once again combined their expertise to deliver the best of both the driving and the listening experience,” said Greg Sikora, senior director, Global Acoustic Systems Engineering at Harman.
“Harman Kardon’s acoustics engineers worked hand-in-hand with the Volkswagen design team to create a sound system that is the perfect match for Volkswagen’s first all-electric limousine.”
