Harman has revealed a new scalable software platform that delivers the very latest in-vehicle audio experiences for a more personalized, in-vehicle experience.
The company claims that its Ready on Demand platform provides branded audio value, feature enhancements, upgrades and monetization opportunities in a simple-to-use app.
Ready on Demand is designed as a foundation to enable expanded experiences and future upgrades that can be unlocked by vehicle users at their convenience through in-app purchases in the vehicle. In-cabin audio experiences can be improved and personalized over time, unlike conventional vehicle audio systems, which cannot be updated or become outdated months or years after production as technology improves.
“Today, when you purchase a vehicle, it’s not always possible to get every feature you may want right at the start – cost may be a factor, as are availability and packaging constraints,” said Armin Prommersberger, senior vice president of product management at Harman International. “Ready on Demand transforms the traditional complex retrofit upgrade process for audio into something quick and easy for consumers, who can now create and customize their in-vehicle listening experience with just a few clicks, even after the initial vehicle purchase, all built on Harman’s audio, system integration and user interface development expertise.”
Via Ready on Demand, Harman aims to provide a marketplace with an opportunity for continuing partnerships with OEMs. Experience packages and feature extensions can be purchased on demand at any point during the vehicle’s useful service life, presenting recurring revenue streams for OEMs after the vehicle is sold to its first owner and subsequent owners.
To begin with, Harman has created an initial set of on-demand experiences that consist of packaged bundles of audio and sound features. Brand-specific features can also be tailored within the packages.
