As a continuation of its partnership with Volvo Cars, a Bowers & Wilkins high fidelity sound system features in the new all-electric Volvo EX90 SUV.
Available as an optional extra on board the OEMs latest vehicle, the Bowers & Wilkins system consists of 25 high-performance speakers, Tweeter-on-Top technology and the company’s proprietary Continuum cones, outputting a total of 1,610W of power. Completing the system is Dolby Atmos decoding capability, enabling greater levels of audio immersion for vehicle occupants.
Since the start of the Volvo EX90’s development, Bowers & Wilkins has worked in collaboration with the Swedish OEM to ensure the sound system delivers excellent sound reproduction by optimizing the position of the interior speakers in addition to providing audio tuning specific to the SUV.
“We’re delighted to be continuing our long-running partnership with Volvo Cars as suppliers of high fidelity audio in the new Volvo EX90,” said Dan Shepherd, senior director of automotive partnerships, Bowers & Wilkins. “It means that Bowers & Wilkins is the audio brand of choice for customers across every one of the Volvo 60 and 90 series vehicles, allowing us to deliver our famous True Sound experience to more listeners than ever before. By working with Volvo Cars from the very start of the Volvo EX90 project, we have delivered an authentic and accurate audio experience that we’re sure every listener will love.”
The Bowers & Wilkins system features double-etched brushed stainless steel speaker grilles and debossed brand logo, with each component situated in backlit wood paneling.
“For eight years Bowers & Wilkins has been the premium audio system provider of choice for Volvo Cars producing a series of highly acclaimed and highly successful solutions,” commented Javier Valera, chief operating officer and deputy chief executive officer of Volvo Cars. “For the new Volvo EX90, Bowers & Wilkins was a natural and obvious choice as provider of our premium audio system.”
The Tweeter-on-Top technology consists of a tweeter in its own separate housing on the top of the dashboard, engineered by Bowers & Wilkins to reduce coloration and acoustic reflection from the vehicle’s windshield. The Double Dome aluminum tweeter benefits from an extremely thin aluminum dome which is supported by a thicker ring to add overall rigidity and to reduce distortion at high frequencies and volumes.
Additionally, the Volvo EX90 features two headrest speakers in each of the front seats and four speakers in the ceiling to act as height channels which contribute to the Dolby Atmos experience.
