Covestro and energy company RWE Supply & Trading have inked a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply renewable power from offshore wind turbines in the North Sea to Covestro’s production site in Antwerp, Belgium. Running from 2026 to 2030, the companies predict that the deal will increase the site’s renewable energy share from 45% to 60%, and CO2 emissions by 103,000 tons.
Replacing the expiring agreement, this new PPA is purposed to secures Covestro’s green energy supply until 2030. At the Antwerp site, Covestro manufactures polycarbonate, used in various applications like car headlights. The site also produces polyether and aniline, with plans for expansion via the construction of a new plant.
Aligned with its goal of achieving climate-neutral production by 2035, Covestro says it has been actively seeking and securing renewable energy contracts.
